Don’t forget to drop off your Michigan returnable can’s and bottles to the OCAP dumpster (located between The Ontonagon Herald office and Peninsula Graphics) all money goes to help build an animal shelter in Ontonagon County.
The Copper Country Community Arts Center is currently featuring artwork by Hancock High School students. Pastel drawings, paintings, sketches, self portraits, ceramic sculptures, and other incredible works of art will be on display in the Youth Gallery though the end of May. The CCCAC is located at 126 Quincy Street and open Tuesday-Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 1pm-5pm. Call 482-2333 for more information.
The new exhibit in the Community Arts Center’s Kerredge Gallery is titled “Of the Land”, photographs by Christine Garceau and assemblage and mono prints by Julie Schaffer. OCAP’s 5th Annual Dinner Fund Raising Event will be held on Saturday, May 17th at Paul’s-AmericInn Restaurant in Silver City. Social Hour 5, Dinner 6:30. The gun raffle will return this year along with silent auctions and different price level bucket raffles. Ticket prices are $30 each or 2 for $50. A benefit Soup and Sandwich Luncheon, sponsored by the Ruth Circle of First Presbyterian with Thrivent Matching Funds, will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 11am to 2pm at the American Legion Hall in Trout Creek. $6.00 donation. The proceeds to be divided between Gladys Budd and Dawn McIntyre.
THE OTTAWA SPORTSMEN'S CLUB WILL BE HAVING ITS' ANNUAL SPAGHETTI DINNER FUNDRAISER ON SATURDAY, MAY 17TH, FROM 5 TIL 8PM. IT WILL HELP RAISE MONEY TO SEND THEIR JUNIOR SHOOTING TEAM TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT CAMP PERRY, OHIO IN EARLY JULY. THE COST OF THE DINNER IS $6.00 FOR ADULTS AND $4.00 FOR CHILDREN UNDER 12 YEARS OLD. WE'LL BE SERVING; TOSSED SALAD, SPAGHETTI (HOME MADE SAUCE!), GARLIC TOAST AND MANY CHOICES OF DESSERT. COME AND MEET THE KIDS THAT REPRESENT THE COPPER COUNTRY SO WELL AT THIS NATIONAL EVENT.

Women seeking the opportunity to improve their outdoor skills are invited to register for the 11th annual becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) program, set for May 30 – June 1st to be held at Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay. The $175 registration fee includes all food and lodging as well as most equipment. Space is limited and early registration is recommended. Delicious long time salad favorites and tasty new dishes will be served at the Annual Salad Luncheon held by the Women of Grace United Methodist Church’s Ruth Circle scheduled for Thursday, June 5th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A suggested donation of $6 will be requested. The event is to take place at Grace United Methodist Church on Isle Royale St. in Houghton in the parish hall. Also at the event will be a small bazaar with longtime favorites, including the “Methodist Knives”, tableware and household goods. Money raised at the event goes to support the local and Upper Peninsula charities. Tickets for the event are available from members of the Ruth Circle or at the door. A Perennial Flower sale will be held at Meadowbrook Arena in L’Anse on Friday, June 6th from 5 to 9pm and Saturday, June 7th from 9 am to 2pm. There will also be a seminar with speaker Dave Gafner from Flinn’s Flowers & Garden Center in Escanaba on Saturday the 7th from 10 to Noon. Mark your calendars! The Copper Country Community Arts Center and the City of Houghton announce the 7th annual Houghton Spring Art and Music Festival will be held Saturday, June 7th from 11am-6pm. The Houghton Spring Art and Music Festival is an annual celebration of spring with art, music, art activities, food, artist demos and more on the beautiful waterfront in downtown Houghton.
